The Voice of the Horse Industry

With these though times, showing horses is getting way over my budget, fortunately my parents have offered to step in and help me pay. Because they are helping me I want to spend as little as possible on shows, does anyone have any suggestions on how to save money without looking tacky in classes:).

Buy used! It sounds like you've already been showing, but if you're looking around for any new tack or clothes, go to your tack shop's consignment area and look around. You can find a bunch of good things on Ebay and Craigslist too. It works in reverse too. If you have any old tack or riding clothes that you don't use anymore, put it all up for sale on Ebay or Craigslist, and get some extra money to help put towards your showing. Try not to put stuff up for sale at tack shops or auctions though, as they normally charge a consignment fee, and it can get pretty pricey at some places.
And at shows, if you normally enter multiple divisions, try and choose just one or two divisions that you really want to compete in, and save yourself the extra entry fees. Showing is about having fun and showing off your horse, not the number of classes you compete in.
